Open Scroll

Privacy Policy

Effective October 12, 2026

Open Scroll is a reading app. It keeps only what it needs to remember your place, your hearts and saved passages, and your reading statistics. It shows no ads, runs no analytics, does not track you, and does not sell or share your information.

What Open Scroll collects

An account identifier

The first time you open the app, it creates an anonymous account for you: a random identifier with no name, email address or phone number attached. Everything else on this page is stored against that identifier.

Sign in with Apple, if you choose it

If you choose to keep your reading with Sign in with Apple, Apple gives the app a stable identifier for your Apple Account and, if you allow it the first time, your name and email address. Apple may give a private relay address instead of your real one. These are kept with your account only so that you can sign in again on another device. Open Scroll does not email you or use them for anything else.

Your reading

Totals that every reader sees

Each passage shows how many readers have hearted it. That number is a total. It never shows who. Open Scroll also counts how many times a passage has been shared, but not who shared it or where.

Technical information

The servers that host Open Scroll keep standard logs of requests, including IP address, device and app version and the time of the request, so the service can run and stay secure. These logs are not used to identify or track you.

What stays on your device

Your sign-in session, kept in your device's secure storage; any changes waiting to be sent while you are offline; and your preferred order for the library. Images you create to share a passage are made on your device and go wherever you send them. Open Scroll never sees them.

What Open Scroll does not do

Who processes your information

Supabase hosts the database and handles sign-in, on servers in the United States, on Open Scroll's behalf. Apple provides Sign in with Apple and distributes the app through the App Store, under Apple's own privacy policy. No one else receives your information.

Keeping and deleting your information

Your information is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app, under You → Delete account. That permanently deletes your account and everything listed under Your reading, and if you used Sign in with Apple, it disconnects Open Scroll from your Apple Account. Copies held in routine backups are overwritten in the normal course of the backup cycle.

Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account. If you want your information gone, delete your account in the app first.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the information held about you, correct it, delete it, or receive a copy. You can delete everything yourself in the app. For anything else, write to the address below and you will get an answer within 30 days.

Children

Open Scroll is not directed to children under 13, and does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, write to the address below and their account will be deleted.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. A change to what is collected or how it is used will also be noted in the app.
